Shashi Tharoor gets death threat SMS from D-Company

Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor's security has been tightened following an SMS death threat received by him from Mumbai. The SMS is said to be from Chhota Shakeel of the notorious D Company. The threat was reportedly sent to an Officer on Special Duty attached to the union minister's office via SMS by the Dawood Ibrahim gang.  The threat via SMS said: "Apologize to Lalit Modi. Drop the (Kochi) team, or die." The SMS is said to be from Chhota Shakeel of the D-Company. Tharoor has reportedly written to the Home Ministry about the death threat, following which his security has been tightened.


Tharoor is reportedly in trouble after IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi tweeted to reveal that Sunanda Pushkar, a close associate of Tharoor. had been gifted equity worth 70 cores in the new Kochi team which was sold for 1530 cores last month.

Intelligence agencies have traced the source of the threat SMS to Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor. A police team zeroed in on a west Delhi locality from where the SMS was sent.

Earlier in the day, security agencies went into a tizzy after the minister received a death threat through the SMS. Senior Delhi Police officers rushed to Tharoor's residence at Lodhi Estate and beefed up security.

Tharoor was whisked away to an undisclosed safe location for a while after receiving the threat. He however returned home soon with the intelligence agencies beginning investigation.
