Cricket fans could not have been much happier, as the DLF IPL 2010 will be held in India this time, as the 2009 IPL was held in South Africa. And the organisers of the Indian premier League have included four new venues for hosting the season 3 matches; Vishakhapatnam, Nagpur, Dharmasala and Ahmedabad are the new cities to host a few matches of the following teams; Mumbai Indians, Kings XI Punjab, Deccan Chargers and Rajasthan Royals. The IPL 3 tournament will begin from March 12th 2010 – April 25th 2010.
The opening match and the semi-finals
The first match of the IPL 3 will be between Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders that is scheduled in Hyderabad on March 12, 2009. The two semi-finals, which are scheduled on April 21st and April 22nd respectively, will be played in Bengaluru but the venue for the playoff match, which will be played on April 24, 2009 and the venue for the final match on April 25, 2009 has not been finalized as yet. The play off match will be between the losing semi-finalists for the 3rd and 4th position.
Format of the IPL 2010
The number of matches has gone up to 60 in the IPL 3 season when compared to the 1st and the 2nd edition. The IPL 3 comprises of 8 teams and each team will play twice against the remaining 7 teams; one match will be played on the home ground and the other match will be away. The top 4 teams will play in the two semi finals and in the play off match the two losing semi-finalists will contest for the third and the fourth place. The format of double round robin stage, which is followed by the knockout stage, remains unchanged in the IPL 3 season.IPL 2010 Schedule
